Coming to Israel for LASIK

Hello,
I reside in Los Angeles and recently had been approved as a good candidate for LASIK at a well established clinic. The cost of the procedure in LA is significantly higher than back in Israel (200-400%) and I'd like to check whether it is feasible to do the procedure during a visit to Israel. My obvious concerns are for the longer term check ups (over 2-3 weeks) and for what if complications occur and I need corrective action. Is there a clinic in Israel that has agreements with US clinics for these cases?

Co-managment is still not an option

Dear Assaf

Our American collages do not encourage co-management with foreign Laser centres.
If they did, they will be out of business in no time.
For your information, Laser vision correction is even cheaper in India!!! So why not travel to India for your surgery?

I personally take responsibility over my surgeries and follow my patients very closely as needed. I feel that the personal touch is part of the service.

On rare occasions, I would ask a colleague of mine to see one of my patients if a single follow-up or an emergency visit is needed.

I would be very unhappy if people from Israel will travel to India, have their surgery there (pay the Indian surgeon for his service) and land in my office for the routine follow-up, treatment of complication or for an enhancement all for “free”.

A fair co-management agreement will mean a cheaper price for surgery but a very expensive “follow-up” fee.

The bottom line: Co-management in laser correction surgeries is a bad idea.
Don’t look for a cheap surgery away from home; in many cases it will turn out to be much more expensive…
