AOKD

My mother inlaw has APKD and has large cysts both in her kidneys and liver. During the past year she has been suffering from recurrent right upper quadrant pain, that worsens with breathing. the duration of the pain becomes longer and longer (up to 2 weeks) and the frequency in which it comes back has become shorter (intervals have shortened). Shehas been to the hospital several times and underwent US but was released saying there is nothing to be done - not pain wise and not solution wise. It is probably due to growing cysts that press the choleducts. It is very frustrating to suffer pain for such long periods of time knowing nothing can be done. Do you know of any other test that can be done to rule out that the cause is not different and more severe (because of the cysts she has visibility on US is low) or of any effective pain management (of course she is limited due to her APKD) or any other possible treatment (alternative or conventinal).
