Diagnosis of Lupus?

Lupus (SLE) is a multi system disorder which involves many organs. It can cause many types of rashes, mainly in the face and areas exposed to sun. It also causes arthritis and pain in joints. It can affect the kidneys in many different ways and to different degrees of severity. It can cause hematological problems (anemia low platelets etc). It can cause neurological problems. And so on and so on. The diagnosis depends on the symptoms, the sign on physical examination and lab tests including ANA anti DNA, anti Sm etc.
In any case where lupus is considered a rheumatologist should be consulted.
